Signs and Banners

UCI is a campus that attracts many visitors attending various campus events, visiting friends, etc. Most visitors are unfamiliar with parking and facility locations at UCI. On-campus wayfinding guides are crucial to the timely arrival of visitors and to creating an overall positive impression. As a result, Parking and Transportation offers a number of services in an attempt to assist the greater UCI community and its visitors in finding their way.

Directional Road Signs

Wayfinding can be tricky, and UCI offers a unique challenge with its circular configuration. There are six main entrances into campus: East Peltason Drive, West Peltason Drive, Bison Avenue, Mesa Road, Anteater Drive and California Avenue.

Directional road signs can be ordered to assist with wayfinding from any of these entrances to a designated parking lot. The signs will be placed at every intersection or change-of-direction point to ensure that visitors and guests can easily follow the designated route. Additionally, pedestrian signs can be purchased to guide patrons from the parking lot to the event site.

The signs are in black ink printed on neon yellow paper and are attached to narrowcades. Due to size restrictions, the wording on the signs must be no more than three lines of eight or less characters each.

Specialty Signs

Specialty road signs can be ordered for higher profile events or simply for event sponsors who desire a bit more of a professional look to their signs. These signs are individually produced and feature sticky-back cut vinyl attached to PVC. The PVC is then attached via velcro to narrowcades that are placed on the roads.

The PVC and vinyl come in most standard colors, such as yellow, red, green, blue, black, and white. When selecting colors it is important to select colors high in contrast. Particularly good combinations are red and white, yellow and black, or even the UCI colors: blue and yellow.

A standard specialty sign features an 11x17 piece of PVC with one color of vinyl. The number of characters per line is negotiable depending on your needs. A solid border can be added at no additional charge. Certain graphics can be added for additional charges, but restrictions apply. Additional colors may also be added for a small fee.

Outdoor Banners

Outdoor vinyl banners can do wonders for the advertising of an event. Special Event Parking offers the creation of such banners. These can be hung on our parking structures or bridges by our staff or are available simply for purchase to fulfill whatever needs an event sponsor may have.

The banners are made from heavy-duty vinyl material. They come in various sizes (see below) and colors (red, white, yellow, black, and blue). Sticky-back vinyl is applied to the banners, and they come in most standard colors (e.g. yellow, red, green, blue, black, and white). When selecting color combinations, it is important to select colors high in contrast.

If particular graphics or fonts are needed, a digital file in line-art must be provided. An EPS or AI from Adobe Illustrator with outlines is perfect. A bitmap file, such as a JPG, GIF, TIF, etc. cannot be used, even if they are placed into an EPS or AI file. There are exceptions to this if the resolution is extremely high, but no guarantees can be made.
