Recent Changes To Parking at UC Irvine
As the campus braces for future growth, your Parking and Transportation Services office is committed to providing excellent service and sufficient parking to the campus community.
Lot 2 Changes
On Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September
16th, lot 2 will be closed for asphalt
resurfacing and re-striping. Alternate parking
will be available in lot 1, the Student Center
Parking Structure (SCPS), and the Social Science Parking Structure (SSPS).
As part of this maintenance, several changes will
be made to stall designations. There will be an
increase in "X", disabled, service and vanpool
stalls, as well as the creation of "Carpool Only"
stalls. "AR" parking will be available in lot 1,
the Student Center Parking Structure (SCPS), and
the Social Science Parking Structure (SSPS). For
those who wish to join or create a carpool,
please visit
the Carpool page.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as
we work to improve your parking facilities.
Additional AR Reserved Parking
Two small AR Reserved lots, lots 18C and 18D, have opened adjacent to Anteater Parking Structure (APS). "X" permit parking can also be found
in lot 18D. These lots are available to any AR permit holder, except for AR permits for lot 80. (Click here to view
the campu map.)
Lot 1 Changes
Beginning June 25th 2007, Lot 1 will become an AR/C permit only lot. Parking for S permit holders will continue to be available in the Social
Science Parking Structure.
New Hours for Evening Permits
Beginning July 1, 2006, evening permits are valid after 5pm, Monday-Friday, and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Evening permits are valid in
any general, unmarked stall or AR/Reserved stall not marked with an "Enforced 24 Hours" sign. Commuter permits are also valid, after 5pm, Monday-Friday,
and all day Saturday and Sunday in any AR/Reserved stall not marked with an "Enforced 24 Hours" sign.
Keep your Cash, Leave your Car
Leaving your car at home keeps money in your pocket by avoiding purchasing permits and saving on record high-gas prices. With so many of these reliable and
cost-effective alternatives to driving on campus, it's never been easier to keep your cash where it belongs-- in your pocket!
- Faculty & Staff Carpooling - Reducing the number of cars on campus makes traffic easier on everyone. Check out our new carpool matching site. The first one-hundred new carpool matches will receive complimentary $50 gas cards. Do yourself a favor and share a ride!
- U-Pass - Get around for free using the Swipe 'N Go program, which allows UCI students, faculty and staff to ride free on OCTA bus lines all over Orange County!
- Walk or Bike - Not only are they healthy, cost-saving alternatives, but walking and biking help keep the campus cleaner and "greener" by reducing vehicle emissions.
- Custom Plan - Set up an appointment to determine a "custom" commute plan that will be best suited to your needs by calling Ken Ezell at 824-1460.

AR Freedom Program
This has been one of our most successful innovations and we are pleased that so many have found it helpful in conducting University business.
Thank you to all AR permit holders that have registered for the AR Freedom Program.
If you have not already done so, please register your license plate for AR Freedom.
By registering, you will enjoy the "freedom" of moving about the campus and parking in most AR/Reserved lots on campus (lots 3 and 80 are not included).
Registering may also prevent you from receiving a citation if you forget to display your permit.
Zone Commuter Parking
Beginning fall quarter, freshman and some sophmore commuters will be asked to park in the Anteater Parking Structure (APS) levels 3-7 or the ARC lot
between 6am and 5pm. This policy was created to reduce core traffic for roadways already at capacity.
For lot locations, go to http://www.uci.edu/campusmap/.
Forgotten Permit Replacements
Good news for permit holders who have forgotten their parking permit. You may "drive-thru" any information kiosk to pick up a one-day
replacement permit-- convenient and free! Each faculty and staff permit holder is allotted 5 (3 for students) replacements per year.

Commuter Plus Upgrade: End of the post-lunch search for a parking spot
As we seek out ways to better serve the campus, we have heard from many faculty and staff with commuter permits that they have difficulty
finding a parking spot when they return to campus from lunch. As a result, we
have introduced “Commuter Plus,” for faculty and staff with commuter permits. Between noon and 2:30pm, if you cannot find a space
upon returning to campus, you can get a free upgrade permit at any of the parking structure kiosks Availability of these upgrades will be
based on the daily parking demand for each lot so as not to impact AR/Reserved permit holders.
Painless Permit Purchase & Pickup for Students
Permit Transaction Kiosks (PTK's) enable students to purchase and/or retrieve their parking permit from
multiple campus locations. This new option was extremely successful; over 14,000 permits were obtained at the PTKs during the first year!
Continuing with that success, you may again purchase and pick up your permit from the PTKs using your student ID card and MasterCard or Visa.

Pre-order your permit and have it mailed directly to your home by using our Online Permit Shop.
New Facilities Mean New Prices
Your Parking and Transportation Services Office is unique in that we receive no state funds for building, operating and maintaining parking facilities.
Instead, we rely on permit revenue to fund all parking projects. In order to cover debt service for our new parking structure, parking permit
rates increased for the 06/07 year.
Save Money, Know the Rules
Don't waste money simply because you didn't understand the parking rules.
A few violation fines increased this year, yet UCI's citation rates still remain among the lowest in the UC system.
We are committed to providing the highest level of quality service to our campus, and to ensuring that everyone can arrive and park in a timely manner. We ask for your understanding and patience as UCI continues to grow, and as we work diligently to accommodate all members of our community.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this information, please contact your Parking and Transportation Services office at 824-7486 or online at www.parking.uci.edu.
